Why the spiral is doomed!

So ya, this is morbid. But however it is an accurate theory. I will be going over why the spiral is doomed no matter what we do without using the phrase history repeats itself or what our wizard/pirate has caused and only on the people around them by focusing on three main points. They are
  1. Incompetent leaders
  2. Unbalance of power
  3. Reliance on third parties.
Also i'll try and focus on a point per game and one for both so you can see this relates to both areas of the spiral.

So let’s start with number one. Incompetent leaders. There are many examples but there are three HUGE examples. Ambrose, The emperor of Mooshu and Monquista in general.
  1. Ambrose. Remember the tutorial? He literally made a student with no experience with fighting or magic fight 2 highly skilled magic creatures while he stood on the sidelines and watched, by the way he gave us spells during the fight! We had no spells and he made us fight a magic duel! Meanwhile there was Malistaire who could have easily defeated us if he decided to fight. Now that I think of it he was incompetent. The first rule of war is to never underestimate your enemy. But back to Ambrose, after that, he made us clean up wizard city, something which other students who were more advanced and guards trained for this couldn't do! This shows Ambrose really has no idea what he’s doing.
  2. The emperor of Mooshu. When he was put in a coma his “trusted” generals revolted and tried to take the throne in a bid for power. Now that seems normal but keep in mind, that 1. If the leader is competent, loved and trusted that wouldn't happen, and 2. They seemed oddly prepared for this, like they had their armies ready to revolt right when the emperor was put in a coma. So this shows they were going to try for the throne either way, this just helped them. You might say Malistaire helped them which is true, but to think samoorai which are all about honor and serving their emperor betrayed him so fast doesn't look too good, plus a oni got in the capital! Not only is the emperor incompetent but his guards who relied on a stranger to the land who was also a child to fix what highly trained warriors familiar with the land, culture and war tactics of the enemies couldn’t.
  3. Monquista. It's a corrupt system with leaders changing every other day, every citizen has some power, they over inflate their ego without a military force to support a war and they are in the middle of a civil war between church and state. Ya, if that's not incompetence I don't know what is. Plus between you and me, they will do anything to keep their “prestige”. Like trying to imprison a pirate who defeated someone they couldnt and brought it to them, only to start another civil war, get defeated and have the prisoner the pirate brought become king and make a exiled former queen the new queen. So ya, monquista is bad at everything.

Alright unbalance of power. I will rely mainly on lore so bare with me if you are a spiral lore buff. But here is a picture and two other things which sum up how unbalanced the power is.
Key words are in the last line, “when Wharf Rats and Cutthroats can make the imperial navies tremble.” In real life pirates feared the navies, however since some of the greatest navies such as MB feared pirates who were not as equipped for military vessels this shows how out of control power has gotten. To be fair this was after a major naval war however pirates who pilot ships which hardly can be called fit for combat can beat MB galleons we have a problem with power.
2. The fact that MB can’t handle the crime. So ya, MB’s elite police force, detectives and most likely army who might be involved can’t get rid of MB’s crime. The gangs hold all the power and can influence events in MB. Plus they basically have their own army and a massive funding of stolen gold. The power of the queen and the o'leary's is debatable since while the queen is in charge of that world the gang is in charge of the underworld, and the underworld in MB is huge. If the gangs tried to take over MB there is no guarantee who would win. That just shows how unbalanced the power is even in a superpower of a world like Marleybone.
3. Dragonspyre in its heyday. So basically Dragonspyre was the major military power for awhile, they could have easily taken over the spiral yet nobody opposed them. This unbalance of power goes to show that other superpowers don’t care about rising powers no matter how powerful they get as long as there is no war. This just shows how power balance works in the spiral. Basically you can become so powerful you can take over worlds in a day but as long as you don't bother me I wont bother you. This goes into incompetence as well. After all this is how the Napoleguin wars started, the powers let polaris get powerful and only attacked when provoked, not when they posed a clear danger by rapidly building a military with clear intentions for spiral power. But onto the last point

3. Reliance on third parties. AKA as our wizard/pirate.
So basically I’m not going to say what they did wrong but what some people did right.
  1. Celestia fighting morganthe. Sure they died in the end but seeing how every other world just waited to be destroyed and nobody fought anybody to prevent destruction of the spiral Celestia was a huge step forward. They knew they could very well lose, but they didn't give up and fought the shadow for their sakes as well as the spiral, and when all was lost they took their enemies down with them, at least until someone could defeat them. In contrast Azteca while they tried to save themselves relied pretty much entirely on our wizard and didn't fight the shadow with all they had, and look where that left them. Point is Celestia did something right while pretty much every other world chose to let a third party do their work and hope for the best while if they helped as well things could have gone much better.
  2. Avery fighting for his republic. Sure our pirate had a major hand but Avery did a lot of work himself. You could argue he relied on us and that's true, but he did a lot before we came and worked with us to realize HIS dream. He did this because it was mutually beneficial, so basically a pirate is a better person than Ambrose.
  3. Gortez finishing its civil war. Okay sure this is p101 only but Azteca had monkeys and a ship so cut me some slack. But the point is Gortez relied on us at the beginning, to free him and napoleguin HOWEVER he didn't ask us to win the war for him, to be honest we didn't do much, he got a army and navy, he fought with his troops against monquista, and he continues to lead his people not as a superior person but as an ally. Plus he repays his debts. He respects people who help him like our pirate and helps us when he can even though we don't visit him unless we want something (am I the only one who feels bad about that?) But the point is, when we got him on his feet he basically said, go and adventure, it's my responsibility since I wanted this war. In contrast Mooshu you do all that for the emperor and when he wakes up he says thank you but as we can see he doesn't do much else. There are still stray rebels but he doesn't seem to care. Its like he expects someone to clean up for him, his army or not that's not how a good leader like Gortez acts. For example in ancient times great leaders like Alexander the Great were called great because not only did they conquered a lot but they stood on the front line with their men and not in some tent leading them safely. They put their lives at risk along with those who worked under them and gained a ton of respect because of that. Since the emperor of mooshu doesn't seem to do that it's safe to say that's why they revolted.
So in the end no matter what we do the spiral will perish, maybe not because of destruction but it’s very possible it could be destroyed because of the people who lead it. While some major powers who people underestimate might win like Monquista others who are far more powerful will fall like Marleybone. And finally in the end Monquista might be the last of the old major powers while some smaller ones like avalon Rise due to their militarization and isolation which would lead to lack of conflict with other powers. As a bonus here is my prediction for the major powers in the end of a likely spiral wide war (either of civil war or for power)
Most powerful: Monquista. While the weakest major power now, they have access to gold and supplies to hire mercenaries and have a better leadership than most worlds. While they have flaws it can be overlooked for their loyalty to gortez.
Second most: Skull Island. While new, the fact that there are so many pirates, they have a hold on some of the underworld in other worlds not just SI and the fact that they are allies with all the other major worlds means they would stay out of conflict and the last major power would ally with them, that being Monquista.
Third most: Avalon. Due to no stormgates in the skyways and their now “stable” government with building their army means military wise they are the most however they can’t invade anyone meaning that they are only powerful due to their defense.
Fourth most: This one would be changing allot, but there is one I know won’t be it, Wizard City. That might be a surprise however Wizard city’s military is its guards, and some student wizards. I think however Wizard city might be decimated in a spiral wide war due to the fact of lack of defense and it could be seen as a threat later on.
That’s all and See you in the spiral!
